It is reported that Hitachi Shipbuilding has received an order from Dalian Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. to supply two sets of high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) devices. This is the first exhaust gas emission equipment order from a major Japanese diesel engine manufacturer that meets the Tier III nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission standards that came into effect in January 2016.

The two sets of high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) devices received by Hitachi Shipbuilding will be installed on two 7999 DWT chemical tankers built by China Aviation Dingheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for a European shipowner. The NOx reduction system will help users meet the Tier III Nox emission limits for the North American and Caribbean Emission Control Areas that have been in effect last year, as well as the Tier III Nox emission limits for the Baltic and North Sea that will be in force in 2021.
According to Jitsuhiro Yamaguchi, Director of Hitachi Shipbuilding and Marine Machinery and SCR Business Unit, "Hitachi Shipbuilding is the only commercial agent for SCR systems that has been officially certified by Mann Diesel and Turbo. Our goal is to make marine SCR systems a device that meets Tier III environmental regulations. Industry standard."
According to Hitachi Shipbuilding, the company is the only manufacturer that produces both two-stroke and SCR systems, and two high-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units are scheduled for delivery in October and November.
