According to Kozlov, an expert involved in the study, they installed two three-dimensional mesh electrodes consisting of wires in a tubular container filled with electrolyte. The ends of the container were sealed with a flexible membrane and the electrodes were sealed. Connected to an external circuit. The positive and negative ions in the electrolyte make the solution conductive, thus turning on the circuit.
When an earthquake occurs, the electrolyte in the vessel sways, causing a change in the amount of charge "received" by the electrode, causing a change in the current in the circuit. According to the previous calculations and experiments, experts have determined the seismic wave information reflected by various current changes. After the data is amplified by the traditional method, the seismic intensity and other related conditions can be derived.
Most traditional seismographs rely on the mechanics principle to provide relevant data of earthquakes by recording the relative motion of certain components in the instrument, so the cost is high. At present, Russian researchers have made six new types of seismographs capable of detecting vibration frequencies ranging from 0.005 Hz to 100 Hz and are preparing for large-scale industrial production.
Experts at the Moscow Institute of Physical Technology have recently developed a new type of seismometer that measures earthquakes based on changes in charge motion in the electrolyte, which is much less expensive than traditional seismic instruments.
